21st century classroom!
Today, Mrs Leo came from Boston, north eastern USA, into our grade 6 and 7 class. She used “virtual classroom software” which has been developed by an Australian, to share some powerpoint slides, audio, video and chat. Let’s reflect on this amazing lesson and write a post about it.
- Describe some of the slides she presented. Some of the slides she showed us things in America and in other slides she asked us about photos from backyard blog. She asked us about sport and our hobbies and some of the things we like.
- Discuss some of the questions she asked us.
What does Vegemite taste like? It is salty and not very nice if you eat too much of it. Where are the borders of your school (we showed her an aerial picture).
- Which questions surprised you most? Do you eat meat pies hot or cold, what does a gum tree look like.
- Did you learn anything new during the session? Yes I learned about American classes
- Do you think we accurately portrayed a glimpse of life at our school and local area? Why? Yes because we showed her some pictures of around where we live, some of the pictures sais a lot.
- What about a glimpse of Australian culture? Why? Not really because she was the one asking the questions, we asked some too but not as much.
- Do you enjoy being in a virtual classroom. Justify your reasons? Yes because it is a new way to learn and interesting to find out about people in different countries.
- What skills do you think we need to develop and improve upon to successfully participate in such a class? Speaking clearer and give better answers.
- Can you see this as being the classroom of the future? Why or why not? Would you like it to be? I’d like it to be but not all the time because some other classes are fun too. Yes I can see it as a classroom of the future.
Photo a Week!

And this is my speech to go with it:
~~~ALBERT EINSTEIN~~~
WHO WAS ALBERT EINSTEIN?
Albert Einstein was a famous inventor, discoverer and mathematician. He discovered many things, such as the well-known equation E=mc2 which became the theoretical background for the atomic bomb. He confirmed the answer to the question ‘why is the sky blue?’ and invented the hydrogen bomb. Einstein was known for his frizzy hair that stuck up at all angles, making him look like he had just been electrocuted. Albert had many quotes and became a household name for countries all over the world.
~~~CHILDHOOD~~~
Einstein was born in Ulm, Württemberg, Germany on March 14 1879. His family was Jewish, his fathers name was Hermann Einstein and his mothers name was Pauline Einstein, but before she was married her last name was Koch. Hermann was a salesman but then later ran an electrochemical works. When Albert was young his mother worried about Albert’s head, which was large and oddly shaped. After Einstein’s death scientists studied his brain and found that the part that was thought to be related to Maths and science was 15% wider on both sides than that of an average human brain.
~~~WORDFIND~~~
~~~INVENTIONS AND DISCOVERIES~~~
Albert Einstein was well-known for the famous equation E=mc2. This stands for energy equals mass times the velocity of light squared and Einstein discovered this in 1905 and called it the Special Theory of Relativity. In 1916 he expanded this theory and named it Theory of Relativity.
In 1911 Einstein confirmed the answer to the question to “Why is the sky blue?”
In 1922 Albert Einstein was awarded a Nobel Prize for the Photoelectric Effect, a theory explaining that energy carried by any light particle, called a photon, is comparative to the frequency of the radiation.
The first atomic bomb was dropped in 1945 in Hiroshima. Einstein and a few other physicists wrote a letter to President Franklin D. Roosevelt because they thought that Germany might be making an atomic bomb, and suggested that America make one themselves.
Albert Einstein Died in 1955.
~~~QUOTES~~~
Einstein had many quotes. Some of these are:
So long as they don’t get violent, I want to let everyone say what they wish, for I myself have always said exactly what pleased me.
Gravity cannot be held responsible for people falling in love.
Imagination is more important than knowledge.
If A equals success, then the formula is _ A = _ X + _ Y + _ Z. _ X is work. _ Y is play. _ Z is keep your mouth shut.
I never think of the future. It comes soon enough.
When asked what a radio was, Einstein replied:
You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat.
~~~DID YOU KNOW? ~~~
Einstein could not talk until he was three and had speech difficulty until 9.
He did not get along with his eldest son, Hans Albert.
His mother thought he was retarded because he could not talk properly. She also thought he was deformed because he had such a large head when he was born.
His grandmother was reported to have muttered to herself ‘much too fat, much too fat!’ when she first saw Albert as a baby.
There is a photo of Einstein riding an invisible bicycle with only the shadow showing.
~~~MY REFLECTIONS~~~
I chose Albert Einstein for my project because I had heard a lot about him but I didn’t know very much. I liked learning about all the things he did and I think the pictures were pretty good. It was interesting learning about Einstein and I hope you thought so too.
Score from this presentation: 40/40
AND…… Below is a quiz to see just how much you’ve remembered!! Take it and see your score! (sorry if it stuffs up a little bit, I’m not sure what’s wrong with it but still it could POSSIBLY work…)
What are you looking forward to in Year 7?
I am looking forward to meeting new people, having new teachers and starting new subjects.
Are you nervous about anything?
I’m a bit nervous about going into a class where I don’t know anyone and everything is unfamiliar.
Overall I am mostly excited, though a little nervous.
-China has 170 cities with a population of over 1 million. The US only has 9.
-In traditional Chinese culture, many familes have different generations in the one house. So, a children, parents and grandparents could all be under the one roof!
-If you got everyone in China to stand in a line it would never end because of the rate of reproduction.
-China has 1 birth every 1.5 seconds. Each year, more people in China are born than the entire population of Texas.
Hope you’ve learned something new today!
